The Brine, it is a Calling...

Elusive dreams, I wait on rocky shores
Looking out upon the waters of a troubled storm
Crashing, tearing, reaching to drag me under
Swirling about my ankles, slick rocks beneath my feet.

Will you reach for me when I am falling?
Will you watch me as I drown?
Will you feel any sorrow if I left you?
Would you help me find solid ground?

Siren voices whisper and entice me
Foggy mists beyond my reach
Dancing, calling, whispering of a silent sleep,
If I but release my hold and swim in waters deep.

Forbidden Love

He stood upon the cliffs awaiting the sunrise
Watching as the last of the moon descended
Anticipating the light meeting the sea
Listening to the waves kissing the shore.

As the tips of light began to reflect
He saw her on the rocks below
Sable hair embracing her shoulders
Skin so pale against the sea washed rocks

He watched as she finger combed her tresses
Humming softly to the morn
A siren song to warm and greet him
Watching, yearning, wanting more.

She must have felt his eyes upon her
Green met fawn linking sea and sky
Caressing, calling, passions rising
Heart beats crashing with the tides

Both knew magic in their souls
Part man, part hawk he spread his wings
On gentle currents down he drifted,
Softly landing on the shore.

But soul mates they could never be
For she was not his kind
Through eyes that glistened with briny tears
She bidden him good life and goodbye

For her world was not of air and sun
Her world was wet and blue
She donned her skin and swam away
As selkie maidens do.

When Angels Cried

I believe in angels
I saw one just today
She sat beside a mother
As they took her child away

She wrapped her wings around her
She listened while mom prayed
Through coffee cups and flowing tears
And yet the angel stayed

Nurses, doctors came and went
Daylight turned to eve
Mom sat alone or paced the halls
And yet the angel would not leave

Scrubs of green approached the doors
With paper shoes; mask hanging free
The angel stayed because she knew
The news was bad, you see

A little boy was draped in light
He joined the angel by her side
They held mom's hand as she was told
Her baby boy had died.

Inner Anguish

Two men sitting on a stoop
Day dawning as the rush of cars drive by
Drinking coffee from Styrofoam cups

One old, one young, they discuss the weather
Air already warm before the sun has even risen
Not a cloud in the sky to promise rain

Old woman pushing a shopping cart passed the men
Old man nods his head as she shuffles by
All her belongings crammed into black garbage bags

Girl in scrubs waiting at the corner bus stop
Boy in jeans, backpack hangs off one shoulder
Looks about his neighborhood with hooded eyes

Yesterday’s newspaper lays abandoned on the bench
Headlines read Economy in Constant Decline
No change to the everyday existence in the inner city

Day Dreams and Magic

I laid upon the grass one day
And dreamed of places far away
Of palace gates and carpet rides
Of dragon scales and moonbeam slides

Where butterflies were spun of gold
And Unicorns with fairies told
The tales of selkies and magic wands
Where rainbows dipped to drink from ponds

I rode the clouds amongst the trees
Catching rides on wings of bee's
I danced a jig in clovers four
With elves and sprites from times of yore

I followed bunnies to their dens
Chased fireflies to earth again
To proudly stand on hollow ground
Where knights in armor once abound

Then back to sky I flew on leaves
That carried songs upon my sleeves
Back to the field where I reposed
To end my dream as daylight closed

The Gift is Not a Given

The Illusion of Time
Is the essence of one's existence
For we are born to believe
That we will live forever
The Essence of a Dream
Is that we can achieve
Whatever we strive to obtain
There are no boundaries; only infinity
The Infinity of Love
Allows us to care for many
For time is not the issue
Love is but a passage of our reality
The Passage of a Lifetime
Is but an integration of each
Combined for as long as we are given
For nothing, especially time, is limitless

Rush Hour

I rush through each day as if I have endless days ahead of me
When in reality each day is counting down to my demise
I awake each morning running my day through my mind
Planning on how to get there in the shortest amount of time

I rush through traffic, angry that it is moving so slowly
I run through the halls, arriving at my office out of breath
Logging in as I throw my purse in a drawer, the clerk reminds me of a meeting
There's fifty emails to answer and the blasted light on my phone is blinking

Burning my tongue on a cup of coffee, I rush down the stairs clutching my PDA
Deleting messages on my way to another conference I'm not ready for
To be told to move their projects to the top of my priorities
I return to my desk and scratch another due date to my to do list

Lunch comes and goes as I swallow yet another yogurt and banana
I should have stock in these companies; it's my daily substance
Budget is due and the contracts are behind; by the way where is my handouts?
I still haven't answered that stupid light on my phone

The day is finished and I finally get around to the messages
One is canceling tomorrows meeting but there are two to replace it.
The last call is my doctors office telling me the biopsy is back
Could I make an appointment to see the doctor right away; it's abnormal.

Cars honk as they pass me in their hurry to nowhere
I don't see them through the veil of tears streaming off my cheek
Did I just pass my exit?  I don't care.
I'm no longer in a hurry; the sun has just set on my day.
